🏆 Sr. Software Engineer II | United States | Remote Pax8 is hiring a remote Sr. Software Engineer II in the United States to shape resilient cloud systems, establish modern engineering standards, and accelerate responsible artificial intelligence-assisted software development. 🚀 Define What Great Engineering Looks Like This is an opportunity to influence engineering far beyond a single codebase. You’ll own the technical direction of a key product domain, solve complex challenges across teams, and establish patterns that help engineers deliver secure, observable, and maintainable software at scale. As Pax8 advances its artificial intelligence journey, you’ll grow alongside rapidly evolving technology. You’ll help determine where artificial intelligence can improve engineering outcomes, where human review remains essential, and how teams can adopt new tools responsibly without compromising technical quality. ☁️ Build the Future With Pax8 Pax8 combines the energy of a fast-growing technology business with the reach of a global cloud marketplace. Our people are encouraged to stay curious, challenge convention, share knowledge, and build solutions that make technology more accessible to small businesses. Discover more about Pax8 in the United States and explore our culture, purpose, and people. 🧩 What You’ll Do Set the technical strategy for a major product domain, guiding architecture, engineering standards, and the delivery of complex initiatives involving multiple teams. Design dependable distributed systems using event-driven and cloud-native patterns that support long-term product growth. Establish practical standards for distributed tracing, structured logging, service-level objectives, alerting, and production reliability. Lead collaborative technical design reviews and document important architectural decisions so teams can move forward with clarity. Identify recurring engineering challenges and create system-level solutions that improve productivity across the wider organization. Partner with product and data science colleagues to turn business needs into thoughtful, scalable technical designs. Define meaningful measures of engineering quality, including test coverage, deployment performance, incident trends, and recovery effectiveness. Own critical systems throughout their lifecycle and participate in on-call support when required. Mentor engineers in system design, software quality, domain ownership, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools. Establish clear safeguards for artificial intelligence-assisted development, including validation checkpoints, review expectations, and appropriate limits for autonomous agents. Evaluate emerging development tools and guide adoption when they offer genuine value to engineers, partners, and the business. Use artificial intelligence to explore design options, assess trade-offs, support complex refactoring, strengthen testing, and produce clear technical documentation. 🌟 The Difference You’ll Make Your work will raise the engineering bar across multiple teams. By creating reusable patterns, improving platform reliability, and removing systemic barriers, you’ll help engineers deliver better software with greater confidence. You’ll also influence how Pax8 approaches artificial intelligence-assisted engineering at scale. Your judgement will help teams move faster while protecting maintainability, privacy, fairness, transparency, and human accountability. The result will be stronger products, more effective engineering teams, and a more dependable experience for Pax8 partners and their customers. ⭐ What You’ll Bring Extensive software engineering experience, including ownership of complex production systems and technical leadership across multiple teams. Expert proficiency in Python and TypeScript, supported by deep knowledge of a significant product or technical domain. Proven ability to define architecture, establish engineering standards, and guide important technical decisions without waiting for problems to escalate. Considerable expertise in distributed system design, including event sourcing, command query responsibility segregation, microservices, and service mesh patterns. Extensive experience with Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes, cloud-native infrastructure, and platform reliability engineering. A systems-first mindset, with the ability to replace recurring fixes with durable solutions that eliminate whole categories of problems. Demonstrated success leading platform, infrastructure, developer experience, or engineering productivity initiatives. The ability to connect technical decisions with the business problem, customer need, and complete system lifecycle. Proven experience mentoring engineers and helping teams improve their technical judgement, documentation, and delivery practices. Advanced capability with artificial intelligence coding tools for complex analysis, multi-file change, automated test generation, and large-scale refactoring. Sound judgement about the capabilities and limitations of artificial intelligence, including when human review must remain non-negotiable. A responsible approach to data classification, privacy, bias mitigation, fairness, transparency, and validation of artificial intelligence-generated output. Experience creating clear technical proposals and architectural decision records that allow teams to understand context, options, and trade-offs. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Postgraduate study may be valuable for research-adjacent work but is not essential. A collaborative approach grounded in curiosity, ownership, candid feedback, continuous learning, and respect for diverse perspectives. The ability to maintain adequate, secure, and private internet service for remote work. Flexibility for infrequent travel when collaboration or business needs require it. 🔐 Trust at Every Step At Pax8 , we care deeply about building genuine, trust based relationships — starting with how we hire.
